A Story of Holocaust Echoes.
Nicole Sutton is a young girl with problems. A tragic car accident has taken away her brother, and ripped her parents’ marriage apart. Together with her mother she moves to a new house, a new town, and a life she never wanted.
In the dusty cellar of the house she stumbles upon a well-worn notebook – the scribbled war memoirs of Mac, an old soldier. His story soon draws her in – to the tragedy and madness of a life left behind in Auschwitz.
Mac’s words speak of living history and real life. They ultimately inspire Nicole to think beyond her troubles, and realise that you can find a little sunshine every day if you look hard enough.
Rosa’s Gold is a companion novel to The Sugar Men and Beyond the Shadow of Night, but they can be read in any order.

Brilliant story – brilliantly written. My question to you, how did you happen to settle Anna and Lorenzo in Beacon, NY, of all places. That is down the road to me. THAT is when you got me. I envisioned this happening to neighbors!
Ray
Hello TJ.
I wrote Rosa’s Gold way back in 2014. Off the top of my head I have absolutely no idea where that came from. I have a thing about ‘beacons’ because I was brought up right next to one (Sedgley Beacon in the Midlands, UK), perhaps that somehow influenced me. Sorry not to be able to give a proper answer. I guess, as they say, everyone has to be somewhere. Thanks for the comment, hope you enjoyed the book.

Here is another reason I wondered about this location. Being so close to New York City, we have a large number of first generation immigrants from that era here. Loved the book!

I have to do a lot of research for historical fiction, so that demographic may well have been a factor. Really pleased you enjoyed the book. Thanks again.
Anne
Truly enjoyed reading.
Ray
Thank you very much Anne.

A gripping, interesting and absorbing story. I didn’t want to put it down. I didn’t want it to end either. I will definitely be reading The Sugar Men next. Thank you so much.
Ray
Hello Lois. Yes, I saw your post on The Sugar Men first. You’re obviously a very fast reader!
So glad you enjoyed both books.

As I said a gripping story. I read the book in one go as I couldn’t put it down for many minutes without delving back into it. A day well spent.

Thank you for this well written, thought provoking historical novel, Rosa’s Gold. While I have always known this evil had taken place, it felt so much more real through your eyes.
Ray
Thanks Wanda. Glad you got so much out of it.

Just finished Rosa’s Gold on Kindle books and throughly enjoyed it and it certainly is thought provoking on many fronts, my late stepfather was one of the first allied soldiers to get to Auschwitz and would never really fully describe or indeed talk much about what they saw there but I know it haunted him to his dying day and your descriptions made me understand why.

Thank you very much John. I only had to research it, and that was horrific enough. God bless your stepfather.

I just finished Rosa’s Gold and I really enjoyed it. I believe few non Jewish males were circumcised in England in the first half of the 20th century. Had you considered this regarding Mac being thought to be Jewish by the Nazi’s?
Ray
Hi Shelley. Thanks for dropping by, pleased you enjoyed Rosa’s Gold. Yes, that aspect of Mac’s situation did occur to me, but only very late in the story development. I guess my get-out clause would be, as you mention, that Mac was one of those few men who were circumcised despite not being a practising Jew. In the end I decided any explanation or plot twist on the issue would perhaps be too much detail and a feel little contrived. But well spotted.

Just finished Rosa’s Gold and left a review. Didn’t realize you have all these other books to read. I like to research “my” authors and see where they come from. Going to search out and read your other books. Many thanks for Rosa’s Gold.
Ray
Hello Evelyn. Really pleased to be considered one “your” authors. Thank you for buying and reviewing Rosa’s Gold. I hope any other novels of mine you buy live up to expectations.
